Day 8

Day 8

Today, we go back to Glacier and try to rent a kayak for Chris…NO luck! Decide to do a little fishing in Lake McDonand. No luck there, so, I make the decision to hike up to Avalanche Lake. Didn’t sound too bad, I can do a 4 mile hike. OMG! Yeah too much elevation, too little oxygen! But, I made it. And it was SOOO worth it!You follow Avalanche Creek, which we found out is heavy populated with Cutthroat Trout! I think I already told you, it’s free to fish in Glacier. So, I took fly rod everywhere. Chris and I both caught several on the way back from the lake. It’s quite a little jaunt, climbs a little over 1,000 feet in elevation, but if I can do it….Once you get to the lake, it is such a beautiful sight. The lake is surrounded by towering mountains. Waterfalls you can hear crashing down from a long ways off. It’s almost surreal…the beauty and magnitude. Didn’t catch any fish here, water was really shallow. They tell me the other side of the lake is much deeper and better for fishing. Did catch a small one where the lake spills over and starts Avalanche Creek.
