2022 Trip-Eleven Mile Canyon

11 Mile Canyon is one of Colorado’s most famous trout fisheries. A stream that boasts more than 3,000 fish per mile and is known as one of the most scenic stretches of the South Platte River.

Between the 135-foot-high dam and the town of Lake George, approximately 10 miles of prime trout stream carves its way through a granite-lined canyon sprinkled with moss-covered boulders and fallen ponderosa pines. The stream has deep holes, riffles, runs and superb pocket-water, providing a wide array of trout habitat. The clear currents and tree-lined streambanks add to the canyon’s scenic beauty.

The ONLY draw back about this majestic stream is the dirt road that parallels the stream down to the dam. Fishing holes close to road can sometimes be over come with dust from the hurried, trout seeking anglers. But, this makes it easy to jump in and out of the car to explore different sections.

The Eleven Mile  section of the South Platte river is easy accessed from County Road 96. County Road 96 is a dirt road that starts in Lake George and runs along the river up to the dam. The road consists of pull-offs and designated parking lots making it easy to jump in and out of the car to fish different sections of the river. One thing to be aware of is the $8 entrance fee that needs to be paid to enter the canyon. Plan on bringing a check or cash to pay this fee.
