2022 Trip

Dream Stream Sunset

This year, we travel to Colorado. We need to stay a little closer to home, gas prices are the main factor in this decision! Twice as much as last year! We’re also going to try to stay away from the traditional RV parks and stay in some cheaper off grid spots. We’ll start out at 11 Mile State Park. Pretty cheap here, park only has electric hook ups on some spots. Stay a few nights and decide where to go next.

We’ve brought the small generator, some water tanks, our portable dump tank…so we should be able to stay about anywhere for a few days “off grid”.

Our son Chris is going with us again. This time though he is following behind in his Jeep Cherokee with the German Shepard, “Shooter”. It’s a little much with 3 people and a 97 pound German Shepard in a Ford F-150! He bought a hitch mounted cargo carrier to put most of his stuff on, so Shooter can have the whole back end of the Jeep.

His plans are to pitch a tent and try out some of his new camping gear. He has plans to hike some with his “bug-out” bag. Just to see how far he can carry it, how the weight is and how it “handles”….some practice runs!

He also brought a case of military MRE’s he ordered recently. Just to see how they are, how they taste, what comes with them…test runs. We’ll see how this goes…….

My goals…catch TROUT in beautiful “off the beaten path” places. My troubles seem to drift away with a fly rod in my hand in search of these fish.

The wife’s goals…no crazy people! Getting away from the nut cases that walk into the ER on any given day!

On our way…

We head to Joplin, get on US 400. We go thru Wichita and Dodge City. We stop at Beymer Park, Kansas, about an hour and a half west of Dodge City. It’s $10 a night if you park in the area that has electric and water. We stay on the other side with no hook ups for free! We leave the truck hooked up, put the jacks down and the slide-out out. Fast get-away in the morning.

Park is a little run down, not very well kept. But for free, we’ll take it!!

Fairly peaceful night, Chris decides to sleep on his new cot out under the stars!
