Description

Glacier Meadows RV Park, Essex, Montana

25 pull through sites with electric and water hookups, and 16 wooded sites with electricity and a central water station, can accommodate tents to big rigs and anything in between.

No full hook-ups but facilities include a dump station and portable pumper to deal with waste. Has a shower house, and full laundry facilities. Other amenities to make your stay at our campground pleasant include a large shuffleboard floor, horseshoe pit, and wireless internet access.

Great surroundings, fairly quiet location. During the day, it can be noisy, highway is pretty close as well as a train track on the other side of the road. But, in the evening, it is really quiet. Beautiful views in the open part. Takes about 30 minute to get to the west side entrance to Glacier. Takes about an hour to get to Kalispel, nearest town.

  • Fly fishing in the area: Didn’t do a whole lot of fishing here. There was so much to see and visit!!
    • Middle Fork Flathead River. Decent fishing from Nimrod all the way up to West Glacier. Several places to pull off and fish. Note about this river: it is the south boundary of Glacier National Park. There is NO FISHING LICENSE required inside the park. So, if you’re on the north side of the river, you don’t have to have a license. On the south side you’ll need a State Fishing License.
    • Inside Glacier Park. As stated above, NO fishing license what-so-ever is needed.
      • Avalanche Creek and Lake. We fished Avalanche Creek and caught a bunch of Cut-throat.  Avalanche lake is also good fishing, but you’ll need to hike to the other side of the lake to get to the good fishing. I did catch some where the lake empties into Avalanche Creek (small ones).
      • McDonald Lake. We fished here for a little while, did not catch anything. Lake has heavy fishing pressure, lots of traffic. Especially this time, since the East Side Entrance was closed.
