Today was all about taking a drive towards Bryce Canyon and finding an “out of the way” campsite!
We head out of Cedar City on 14 Highway and start climbing, I mean we CLIMB up the mountain. I think we end up around 9,000 feet! It was an awesome drive with lots of sights to see. Valley’s below, lava fields, lakes…beautiful drive.
We turn left on 89, then right on Highway 12 towards Bryce Canyon. Just before Bryce Canyon, we turn south on County Road 087. Very dusty dirt road. Today is the end of the holiday weekend and we meet lots of RV’ers leaving…making the dust horrible! The bed of the truck was full of dust!
We get down to Tropic Reservoir and check out Kings Campground, there is hardly any one left!
We drive around the campground and find the perfect spot!
After we find our spot, we head south to check out the fishing conditions on the East Fork Sevier River. A small stream, but is supposed to have lots of trout in it.
I fish for a few minutes with a bead head hare’s ear that was already tied on (not the best for these fish this time of year). Didn’t have much luck. Caught a tiny rainbow trout, that’s about it. Thing about these fish, you have to be stealthy when you’re trying to catch them…sneak up on them, not to noisy, don’t cast a shadow on the water. Shooter playing it the water might have had something to do with the low catch rate.
We didn’t spend much time there, we wanted to get back to the site for the Bar-B-Cue! Our friends Ronnie and Kevin were hosting a cook out for some of their fellow KOA “work camper” friends that were leaving tomorrow. Ya hardly EVER meet jerks or idiots while camping, just a different breed of people. These folks were no different, good people! One couple was from Oregon, one was from Alaska, others from Texas.
And of course our good friends from Rogersville, Kevin and Ronnie. And 6 dogs between all of us!! Good times! What it’s supposed to be like. Kevin is a favorite, he spends most of his time in “Facebook Jail” for making derogatory Biden Comments!
So, tomorrow we pack up and head for the new site. The Cedar City KOA Journey has been a pretty nice place to stay. Has everything you need: small store, ice scream shop (with a dude that thinks 1 scoop = 1/2 gallon), laundry, showers, full hookups, dog park, playground. Some of the sites are kinda tight and you on top of each other, but other than that, good place, conveniently located.
Cedar City as a whole is a pretty nice town. Small town feel, but has all the big city stuff.
NOTE: probably won’t be any updates tomorrow. As luck would have it, NO CELL SERVICE or INTERNET!! My favorite place!
Deb’s head might explode……..
